Story of sangha 共修故事 (1)

There are some friends who want to learn mindfulness practice of Plum Village tradition in Taiwan. So we start in Taipei for sangha meeting every week. It is not easy to build a sangha here in Taiwan since  not much person knew Plum Village a lot. For me, sangha building is a new idea but a sacred experience to practice mindfulness.

One and half years ago, I planned to move back to Taipei and felt confusing about Taiwanese Buddhism. I didn't know why I felt more anxious and suffering when reading suttra, praying to the Buddha for luck. I was wondering: should I keep Buddhism practice or leave? At the same time, I met the host friend  T who came  from USA planning to promote Plum Village tradition in Taiwan.  I didn't know the name, Thich Nhat Hanh, but a Buddhism nun friend told me he is a very good master. So we started to have a gathering in youth gaya center inviting T to share mindfulness practice with us.

I was so surprised the ways of mindfulness practice including singing, sharing and eating (tea drinking) which I didn't expect we could do in the temple. I asked a lot of questions about this "modern style". Gradually, I realized the power of mindfulness practice when I used this in my daily life. In the beginning, I had strong anger about the issue of family, relationship and society (well...as flower essence showing to me) . I practiced mindfulness breathing a lot. In the part of dharma sharing, my favorite part, I felt released to talk about  my confusing about practice in these years. I never have chance to talk in public about personal feeling related to practice. Deep listening and deep understanding encouraged me to share the struggling about the gap of Taiwanese tradition and Plum Village tradition. Sure, now I knew they were all Buddhism to cultivate Buddha Nature in me, and the difference was my misunderstanding.
